Week 3 ( The Context Of Color & Culture )

An understanding of cultural colour and symbolism is essential to anyone doing business with other countries and other societies. These associations with colour have been a part of many societies for centuries and you must be aware of both the positive and the negative implications of using particular colours when marketing to these societies.

With the advent of the World Wide Web, there is a narrowing of the differences in meanings of colours between different cultures and countries; however, if you are marketing to a particular ethnic group it is wise to take into account their colour associations to maximise your impact. By mixing appropriate amounts of different colours however you can often neutralize inherent negative cultural connotations.

The following is a basic list of some symbolic colour meanings throughout the world. It is by no means a comprehensive list. I suggest you do your own research about the country or culture you are working with, to establish what colours are currently acceptable.

Times change and old associations may be slowly altered over the years. Western cultures have adopted some Eastern colour uses while some Eastern cultures have adopted Western ideas. The Internet has allowed people to learn about other cultures and to adopt what they like from these cultures.

In my opinion, the first understanding of this image is something related to ghost, scary and screaming. Yet, I do really get the message that send from this image. Which mean it is a successful artwork. Just through the colour. This is because colour itself carry each own powerful meaning.

Mr. Charles then questioned us what is manifesto and also what is our manifesto? Manifesto carry its own important meaning yet, I did realized i didn't respect the word or the meaning of it. Then Mr. Charles explain about it and a question come to my mind; “ Am I pay enough effort in every single thing that I have done? ” I admitted that I did not. I don’t even know how far my skill can go, I am in which level and how good my work can be till. It is still a question for me. I truly felt sad for that moment. Let myself have a second chance, try my best and be the best person in my own job!
